A Year Where Dreams Came True

I will like to share my 2017 journey. It was such an amazing year. And truly, a year where dreams came true. I am looking back and my heart is full of joy. When the Israelites entered into the promised land, there was a constant reminder: Remember the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt...who delivered you with a Mighty and Outstretched Arm. So this morning, I am remembering His goodness. And saying thank you. So, before the new year resolutions, take a moment and remember His goodness... What a mighty God we serve!

I consider the last 7 years to be incubating years for me. I was a single girl with many dreams. By 2013, I had written a couple of short books saved up on my computer and going nowhere. But I kept writing. The inspiration to put thought down to paper just kept flowing. Late that year, God connected me with a coach who helped me put things in perspective. I needed direction and wanted desperately to clear the cobwebs that clung to my vision. By the end of 2015, I'd really straightened things out and freed my mind of clutter. I had better focus. My conclusions were thus: I am a writer. I am God's scribe.  I had a passion to help people, women, in particular, grow small businesses through consultancy, tell true stories, histories, and communicate deeply through writing and speaking. I had a blueprint, sort of, an image of what I was about. I got married that year. Shortly before my wedding. I got a phone call from a Pastor friend who had been reading my devotionals through a third party. We've been friends for a long time. He said I will like you to come and speak to the singles in my church.

In 2016, October to be precise, almost a year later, he called again. Around this time, I had begun to pursue a biography I had taken great interest in. I talked about it a great deal with my husband and one of my spiritual mentors who immediately invited me to speak about this character at a conference where heritages were celebrated. By November, through a referral, I was called upon to write another biography. The client had it on her front burners. It was going to be my first biography ever if it pulled through. I was ecstatic! In December, I began to work on my personal project; the biography of the man who had caught my interest. I travelled to Kaduna to interview his most senior son alive.

In 2017, the day dawned with a deep urge within to publish my short books. I started to think deeply about it and make plans. By February, I  had two speaking engagements lined up. I also continued my tour to investigate that first character that got my interest. I travelled to Lokoja, continued to Akure, then to Ibadan. I interviewed people he had raised and trained, his grandson who is currently a grandfather, his most senior daughter alive, an 88-year-old widow etc. It was such an exhilarating experience for me. I was living my dream. From Ibadan, I went off to Lagos and spoke to singles at my Pasto-friend's church. Then went off to the conference in Jos to speak about this man I was writing about.

In May, I was back in Ibadan to begin the other biography project. I had to work with written tributes. The book was published in April. It took me 24 days of excruciating work to produce that book. I had the help of my husband and the accompanying drive of a very zealous client. My first ghostwriting project/biography was birthed. It was the biography of her father and it was his 20th-year memorial. The book was a tribute to his memory. He pioneered the Baptist movement in the southwest. A powerful and inspiring story of faith.

After my return to Abuja, I got a job, (I'd resigned my last job in December). By this time, all attempts to publish my ebooks proved abortive. I was frustrated, to say the least. But I knew the Lord had placed the burden in my heart to get it done in 2017. After much temptation and to keep the story short (my MacBook of 7 years almost crashed and I almost lost all my files!) I finally found a way out and published the books one after the other. My joy was full. I was now fully endorsed by God- an author, a scribe.

Shortly after the last of the batch was published, one morning, I received a word from the Lord that I would be promoted. I rejoiced. I sang and I danced. It was a small witness in my heart. But I believed it. This was October 2017, and I was doing a shooting a documentary for my company in Bayelsa. By November 7th, still in Bayelsa, I got a job offer. I knew it was from the Lord. So I took it. By November 17th I'd relocated to Bayelsa. Doing work on a large scale to impact a state.

My whole took a new turn. It was a glorious 2017. To say the least. My dreams came true. And God has only just begun because my dreams are like the stars.

I hope this blessed you. In 2018, have faith and don't stop believing. God is able. Nothing is impossible!
