Check this out: Romans 8:13
Most people don’t get married and say to themselves, “I’m going to commit adultery.” Most people don’t set out in life to be murderers, thieves or criminals. It’s usually a slow fade. For the married man or woman, it’s the stares in the office, the giggles behind closed doors.
The person starts out as a friend you can tell all your marital woes because your wife just doesn’t understand. The other person becomes easier to talk to, an occasional lunch together from time to time becomes a regular thing and the story unfolds.
And for younger, unmarried people, sex doesn’t just happen, it’s the kissing, the fondling, and the cuddling – that we told ourselves was okay. All these things together are the prelude to the ‘act’.
Usually, sin doesn’t creep on us out of nowhere. It usually comes gradually and if we are honest enough, we’ll admit that we saw the signs. That’s why Jesus said ‘it’s the little foxes that spoil the vine’. It’s the little sins that make up the big sins.
Today, be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little mouth what you say, and be careful little ears what you hear because it’s a slow fade. Big sins were once small sins.
