Below is a fragment of a great musing of mine on the 10th January, 2016: Speaking of ideals. We all have ideals. We all believe we can create our ideals. How about our destiny? How about ‘maktub?’ How about what is written about us? What if you weren’t designed to have your ideal? I’ll give you an example. I had a dream wedding in mind. I had this grand picture, this grand design. But that didn’t happen. That didn’t take place. But I still had a wedding. In future when all things get equal — that is if they eventually ever do — would I say “oh, now I have a million dollars, now I will have my dream wedding?!” Nah. It doesn’t work that way. There would be no more wedding. Except for the one that already took place and that as unfortunately as it seems wasn’t the ideal wedding. So what do you do then? What do you do when you realise that as much as you might want to create your ideal thing, you realise that you were never wired, never designed, never ‘destined’ to have or own, or experience that ideal? What do you do when you are faced with the very opposite of what you dreamed? One thing is certain. Stop waiting for Santa to burst through the skies. Stop waiting for the ginny to make a grand appearance from the lamp. Accept what is and be the best self you can in your reality. My thoughts today: On that day, I was distraught about stuff… plenty stuff. But today I am reminded that what we need is not an ideal; a stale private aspiration we call dreams. What we need is God’s grand purpose for our lives. It is in His perfect will for us — His predestined plan for us — that is where we have perfect peace and contentment. We are only the best self we can be when that self is hidden with Christ and in God. Colossians 3:2-3 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. — ESV
