Check this out: John 4:14 (also check out John 4 and 5)
Reputations shatter like cheap glass every single day. In a heartbeat, we can mention a few names – Tiger Woods. . . Neil Armstrong. . . Bill Clinton. . . almost everyone we know have their moments of falling short. So we keep changing labels and in time, role models become no-models. But thankfully, not Jesus. . . not God. . . He is what He says He is. See Him in John 4 by the well with the Samaritan woman. He says He’s the river of life and no one who comes to Him will ever thirst again. For with [Him] is the fountain of life (Psalm 36:9). We see her hesitate. Six men had promised to quench her Samaritan thirst and failed. Does she dare trust this one?
Flip the page, fast forward to John 6 and see Jesus live up to every word of His claim. There’s the paralytic sitting by the beautiful ‘not-so-beautiful’ gate for 38 years. For 38 years he waited for the stirring of the water and for 38 years the promise failed. Until a man shows up, a man that claims to be the River itself. For with (Him) is the fountain of life. No need to wait for angelic stirrings. The water in all its fullness was here and 38 years of waiting for splashes of holy “pool” water finally comes to an end.
Like the Samaritan, we tread with caution and ponder in our hearts do we dare believe? Of course! God has lived up to his reputation every single time. You can stake your life on God. I’m willing to stake mine on him. He is and will be whatever He’s said He will be in your life. Only believe.
Action point: This week, pick a name of God and stake everything on it. I’m picking Agbanilagbatan - the God that saves completely. Which will you pick? Yours in love, MOI
