Na so Abraham tell God ‘no wahala, sebi na you Papa’. God come hala: ‘Correct guy!’ — Segun Sobowale

We are all filled with marvel when those lists come out - the Oscars, Forbes richest men in the world. . . It puzzles us that a Nigerian – Folorunsho Alakija – is the richest black woman alive. We marvel at the Forbes’ people’s self-worth, our mouths are left wide-open in surprise at all they own and how much money they have in their possession. We wonder if we can ever be on that list and the people on the list become our role models. We say to ourselves, “One day I will be the Bill Gates, the Dangote, and the Mark Zuckerberg of my time.”

There’s an even greater list though: The list in Hebrews 11 — God’s own list.

So God rolls out his list, by faith Abraham. . . by faith Abel. . . by faith Sarah and on and on. He lists his ‘OWN’ people. Some of the people on God’s list would have made it on the Forbes list if there was one in their time: Abraham’s net worth was mind-blowing, he was RICH! Why? He had faith. Samson would have been on the strongest men list. Who killed a lion with bare hands? Samson did!

If you are after being on any list, be on this list. You know why? ‘Why’ is in verse 16: . . . for that reason God is not ashamed to be called their God (even to be surnamed their God — the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob), for He has prepared a city for them (The Message). Faith makes God unapologetic and unashamed to be called your God; He would even associate His name with you. He would proudy say, “I’m the God of Ayo, the God of Tinashe, and the God of Dave.”

All God requires from you is faith – the strong-headed assurance that if He says something, He’ll do it; that surety that God doesn’t lie and that He jealously guides His word to see it come to pass. As one of my friends put it yesterday in his own pidgin version (referring to God asking Abraham to believe the impossible): “Na so Abraham tell God ‘no wahala, sebi na you Papa.’ God come hala: ‘Correct guy!’”

Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God (Hebrews 11:1-2, Contemporary English version). It was their faith that put them on the God list. I’m dead sure God’s heart beats extra fast when He senses faith.

Develop a faith culture and put yourself on that list –and by faith, Dolu pleased God and God is not ashamed to be called her God. The God of Doluwa – it has a delightfully nice ring to it. . . NOW try it out with your name.

Yours in love, MOI

{And God is not ashamed to be called their God.}
