Jacob became Israel at River Jabbok... There he admitted to his sin and his need for God; his unquenchable thirst for God's living waters... There he surrendered control of his life over to YHWH.
Finally Brethren...
My Commentary on the life of Jacob:
Jacob reminds me of me. His life paints a true picture of where I’ve been; a shameful past. A dark history that was all my own doing with several unfinished businesses. A black heart too. Jacob’s story comes to remind us that the first step to true transformation is to be ALONE WITH GOD. To chase after THE SILENCE. To desire a loneliness that ONLY God’s presence can heal. Two, Jacob’s story tells us that only an encounter with God can jolt us out of our lethargy and the humdrum of lifeless routines. A spiritual encounter that awakens us to the shinning wonder of God and His kingdom. A spiritual encounter preceded by a spiritual hunger for more of God. A longing to chase after the one Who eternally pursues us. Jacob awakened out of sleep to behold the ladder…but he also awakened from a spiritual slumber and became awake to a God reality. Finally, Jacob would become Israel at the river Jabbok, where he displayed a desperation for God above all else… above all his scheming and his intrigues, above all his mastery and the familiar. He sought God above all else and God met him. He cried out and God heard him. While he wrestled with God, God in turn would wrest control of Jacob’s life from Jacob. So that Israel was a man fully yielded to God. May our heart cry today be like that of Jacob; one that is tired of the familiar; a life that is wasted from having too much wine; a self-absorbed life that is drunken with deceit, treachery, lies and unhealthy bargains. May our cry for more of God ascend into Heaven and may God meet us where we are. Amen.
Philippians 3:10 That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death.
