The Unseen Miracle

You wonder, how is a baby formed in its mother’s womb? How do the bones, muscles and blood vessels develop within the confines of another human being? No one knows. Yet somehow we see and experience the outcome. We see a bulging tummy. We hear the high pitched cry of a wriggly little creation as it forces its way through the cervix of a woman. We see the outcome in spite of the unseen process that precedes it. In like manner, you wonder at how your life will get better. You look at your compulsive weak nature and wonder if there is hope for you. You wonder if all your effort to be better can lead to any good. If at all there’s any good left in you. You are downcast. You feel hopeless. You look at your life and call it fruitless. You throw in the towel. You resign to business as usual. But here is what you don’t know. You forget the power of the unseen; that the things we do not see are greater than the things which are seen. Like the power of transformation and mutation. The power of metamorphosis. Like the power at work when a seed is planted in the ground. The power of germination. The period of dormancy that is hidden from our natural eyes. At first it seems like nothing is happening. Like the seed is dead, forgotten. Then suddenly, it sprouts. Suddenly, a tiny seedling shoots out of the ground. And a miracle breaks through the dirt. You are different. You have grown. You are better. You have changed. The compliments reel out in endless praise of your metamorphosis. You wonder, “when did it happen… when, how, why?” You may not know how the baby is formed in its mother’s womb, or how a dead seed can come alive and become a sturdy tree. But you can take the first step and plant a seed. Keep doing the good you can do to be better. How it all adds up is none of your business. Leave that to the law of the unseen miracle. 2 Corinthians 4:18 So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. - NLT
