Check it out: Job 1
What if we are in heaven at this exact moment, let’s imagine that God has thrown this massive annual board meeting; all the angels have come to give their ‘annual report’. Just as God is about to close the meeting, the devil strolls in with a big mischievous smile on his proud face. God asks him where he’s been and of course he gladly rolls out his list of goings and comings. He finally pauses to catch his breath and surprise surprise, your name comes up.
God asks, “Have you seen my servant -------- (insert your name)?”
What do you think God will refer to concerning you? What do you think the devil’s reply would be?
I’d like it to be like Job’s. As the devil proudly lists his conquests, God interjects with a smile, ‘Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.’ (Job 1:8 NIV). The devil turns away, scratches his head and comes up with excuse after excuse for Job’s good behaviour. And of course there’s Jesus, as he humbles himself to allow John baptise him, God says concerning him he is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased (Matthew 3:17 NIV). God can make the same referral about you and I, it’s not by works; stop trying, it is by grace. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8) and through his Holy Spirit dwelling within us and enabling us to do right by God. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God (Romans 8:13 -14).
We really need to get our acts together and stop the devil from messing with our lives. If you already have your act together, congratulations, you’re making God proud!
If you haven’t, then ask for God’s free gift of grace. The biggest lie of the devil is that we cannot live holy lives but we can, don’t let the devil fool you. God wouldn’t have said be holy as I am holy if He thought it was impossible.
Today, ask God for His free gift of grace even as His Spirit leads you into a life that makes God proud. God help us.
Yours in love, MOI
