As I went about my business yesterday I found myself daydreaming as usual, turning over ideas in my head. And then I heard myself saying, ‘men are heartbreakers,’ men as in humans mind you, lol. It is something we do easily. We say we will do one thing and then as we collide with circumstances, we find a handful of reasons why we couldn’t do it. That is the human race for you. Politicians make pledges and after the elections they throw those pledges back in our faces and tell us to go smack our heads against the wall. Your boss promises a raise and then a recession happens and instead the company downsizes. You tell a loved one to expect something special for their birthday or wedding, and then your salary is delayed and everything goes awry. When we make promises as humans following them through is usually subject to circumstantial events. However, in the midst of these despairing; in spite of the heartbreaks and the failed allegiances, there remains only one promise keeper. God. Through Jesus Christ, God promised us release from bondage and a place for us in the after life. And through the Holy Spirit He guarantees us our place in immortality. But it doesn’t end there. God shows up even in our daily sojourn here on earth making promises at different junctions of our lives and fulfilling those promises at various bends and turns. That in a sense is how He reassures us that His eternal promise to us would ultimately be fulfilled at the appointed time. And for that we do not despair. Unlike our fickle human minds God supersedes us as keeper of His promises. Circumstances do not dictate to Him. The turn of events do not deter Him. He is the One who is able to do far and above our imagination or thinking. Therefore, trust Him and do good, so shall thou dwell safely in the land, so shall thou be fed. Selah!
Psalm 37:4 Trust in the Lord and do good, dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness.
