Do you normally go for routine psyche evaluation? Just so you’re sure that all is well and nothing is broken and everything is where it should be. Do you see a therapist or have regular sessions with a life coach? Both of which are very rewarding endeavors by the way. I paid for professional coaching once. It turned my life around for good. I couldn’t have done it at a better time. My life in those days was a chaos. It was money well spent.
Still, I don’t expect that after reading this post you would rush off to google to search for professional coaching near you. Not many people can go out of their way to pay a life coach or a therapist. Especially if you’re not in a competitive business or in a completely rundown state like I was 5 years ago. That said, you can self-therapy. Oh yes you can! An effective way to self-therapy is by journaling.
Here are quick steps to effective journaling and successful self-therapy
1. Get a notebook & a daily guide — it can be Every Day with Jesus, Rhapsody of Realities, Our Daily Bread or (by yours truly) 31 Spoonfuls.
2. Read a devotional per day — mornings are usually best for these but hey, if evenings are your thing, why not? Whatever works for you.
3. Make a note about the lessons gleaned from that day’s devotional. Make extra notes about how you intend to apply them. Next, make more notes on a thing or two you want to change in your life, make comparisons with the past as you move along. Evaluate your findings.
If you do this often, nothing will take you by surprise. You will be able to measure your growth and detect areas needing attention. You most certainly will not be needing a coach or a therapist. At least not in the nearest future. Not if you keep this up.
